BGCC will be hosting a Wheelchair Curling demonstration and Adaptive Curling Clinic on Friday, March 15 from 2 to 6pm. Adaptive curling includes wheelchair curling but also includes anyone who curls using a delivery that is "adapted" to accommodate their physical needs. Typically, adaptive curling involves using a delivery stick to slide the curling stone instead of sliding with the stone in the curler's hand.
Laura Dwyer, a USA Paralympic Curler, will be on hand to both demonstrate and teach wheelchair curling. BGCC instructors will be there to teach stick deliveries. The event is open to the public, but if you would like to try curling yourself, please pre-register using this link. We will have 3 separate one-hour clinics. Please indicate which you would like to attend when prompted. The sessions begin at 2:30, 3:30, and 4:30 respectively.
Participants should bring clean rubber soled athletic shoes for use on the ice (you cannot curl in the shoes that you wore to the club, even if you put grippers on them). Also, those who are not in wheelchairs are strongly encouraged to bring some type of head protection, such as a bicycle helmet, to mitigate the risk of head injuries in the event of a fall.
